- Isn’t it true that as the continental plates move apart, the sea floor spreads? Please elaborate. - 27 February 2009
- I hear there are lots of precious metals dissolved in sea water, including gold, silver, etc. Is it possible to build a plant by the shore (say a nuclear one) which evaporates sea water and extracts all these metals? Thanks for the answers so far, but I guess I did not express my question clearly. First, please ignore the “energy” requirements. Right now, there are desalinization plants around the Persian Gulf that produce fresh water from sea water by “boiling”. And incredibly, they do not even work by nuclear energy, they work by oil - which is much much less efficient. So, please ignore the energy requirements. My question focuses on two things: 1) Once you boil and recondense sea water to produce fresh water, how do you separate the miniscule metals from the huge salt pile? 2) Once you separate the metals from the salt, how do you purify each metal? There are hundreds of different compounds. In other words, is it possible to make the currently existing “boiler” desalinization plants more efficient by putting their side products to some use? Thanks. - 21 February 2009
- The new moon phase is caused by the relative positions of Earth, the moon, and the sun. Why is the moon not visible during the new moon phase? A. the sunlight is not being reflected off the moon b. the far side of the moon is the only side visible c. the location of the moon is between eath and the sun d. - 27 January 2009

- I’m doing a cross-word puzzle for Science class and one of the statements is: when sea water is holding the greatest amount of a chemical. The word is 10 letters long. - 7 November 2008
- I have medium zircon sands mine with the average daily production 50 tonnes output, at the moment to separate zircon sands from other material I use spiral separator. The result I got were 60% to 70% of zircon sands, information i found that using vibration table will increase the percentage of zircon sands. I want to know the way to make it or if there company selling vibration table. I’ll appreciate if there any simple ways to separate zircon sands from other material. - 5 November 2008

- I know that the moon, the size of it and the location of it, is important, but how important is it and what would it be like if we had no moon. Or, if we had several moons, what would the difference be then? Links are welcome, point gaming will be reported. - 15 October 2008
